RENAISSANCE

Midlife is a fantastic opportunity for women to discover themselves. Unshackled by the expectations of others and the need to people please, it is a chance to invest yourself on a journey of self-discovery. How many times have we have spent money on ourselves to buy things to gratify a short term need, or sate a temporary desire to still feel unfulfilled? Somehow we rarely consider focusing our energy on investing in ourselves. Yes, many of us are active and try to take care of our physical being, but what about our spiritual being – the uniquely soulful part that is the essence of YOU.

So what does this mean? It has the potential to sound cliched, but the 40s, for example, is an unsettling period for women. Many who have worked in a certain career for a long time, might start feeling a sense of imposter syndrome, or unfulfillment, others may have moved from job to job in the search for satisfaction that is not attained.

Many women will have had children by now who have reached school age, and they think ‘what now?’. It is the first time some have stopped to think about themselves after prioritising the needs of others above themselves. Some of us may have gone on to experience separation or divorce, which can shake our sense of identity to the core. This time period brings the advent of perimenopause/menopause, with all the physical, mental and emotional changes that it brings for women and their own sense of self.

But it is certainly is not a time to write women off – it’s a stage of life where it’s considered that women lose their powers. But why don’t we flip that notion and consider that it might be a time for women to discover their superpowers? As potentially cheesy as that may sound, a search for meaning becomes all the more important as we proceed through life, with a strong desire for our passion and purpose to align. We are all special beings with something unique to offer and this is a great period in life to make time to discover exactly what that is. We have the answers within us, and with a little support to bring them to a conscious level, it allows us to make decisions and take concrete steps in shaping our own visionary future.
